What Are Product-Contact Parts?
Product-contact parts are all surfaces inside the mixer (all 10 industrial mixers for sale) that directly touch the material being mixed. On a horizontal ribbon mixer this means the ribbon agitator assembly, the interior walls and bottom of the U-shaped mixing trough, the central drive shaft, and the discharge valve. These are the surfaces that matter most for material purity, contamination prevention, and regulatory compliance which is why QUICK PROPACK specifies SS316 stainless steel for all product-contact parts as standard on every in-stock unit. Up to 10 industrial mixers for sale.
SS316 product-contact parts on every standard QUICK PROPACK unit:
Ribbon/paddle/plough agitator
Interior of mixing trough
Central drive shaft
Discharge valve
Shaft seals
All interior welds and joints
SS304 structural frame (non-product-contact):
Support legs and frame
Exterior trough walls
Drive housing
Cover hinges and external fittings

How Industrial Mixers Work -Mixing Mechanisms & Performance
Industrial mixers achieve homogeneous blending through one or more fundamental mixing mechanisms convection, diffusion, and shear. Understanding how each mechanism works, and which mixer types use each one, is the foundation of correct mixer selection. Choosing the wrong mixing mechanism for your material is the most common and most costly mistake in industrial powder processing.QUICK PROPACK supplies eight distinct mixer types each of the industrial mixers for sale is designed around a specific mixing mechanism or combination of mechanisms to cover every dry powder, granule, and light paste application across every manufacturing industry.
The Four Primary Mixing Mechanisms
1.
Counter-flow convection
Material flows simultaneously in two opposing directions within the same vessel -creating continuous collision and redistribution of particles. This is the primary mechanism of the horizontal ribbon mixer. The outer ribbon moves material toward the center while the inner ribbon moves it toward the ends -achieving thorough blend uniformity in 5 to 15 minutes with low energy input.
2.
Mechanical fluidization
High-speed plough agitators create a turbulent, three-dimensional mixing cloud where every particle is in rapid simultaneous motion regardless of its density, size, or flow characteristics. This is the mechanism of the plough mixer – the only mixer type that can reliably blend cohesive, non-flowing powders. Achieves thorough mixing in 1 to 5 minutes.
3.
Weightless mixing zone
Counter-rotating double shafts create a zone where the centrifugal forces from both shafts cancel out -temporarily neutralizing gravity and allowing materials of widely different densities and particle sizes to blend uniformly. This is the unique mechanism of the double shaft paddle mixer – achieving complete blending in 30 to 60 seconds.
4.
Gentle orbital convection
A screw rotates on its own axis while simultaneously orbiting the conical vessel wall lifting material upward while gravity pulls it back down through the center. This is the mechanism of the conical screw mixer – producing the lowest shear of any mixer type, ideal for extremely fragile or high-value materials.
Key Performance Parameters
| Parameter | Typical range | What affects it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mix time | 5–15 min (ribbon/paddle) 1–5 min (plough) 30 sec–3 min (double shaft) | Mixer type, agitator speed, batch loading ratio, material flow | Shorter mix times = more batches per shift. Over-mixing causes segregation in free-flowing powders. |
| Blend uniformity | 90–95%+ for most materials 95–99%+ for pharma | Mixer type, agitator speed, batch size, material properties | Primary measure of mixing quality. Drives product consistency and regulatory compliance. |
| Loading ratio | 40–70% of vessel volume optimal | Material bulk density, mixer type, required uniformity | Determines actual batch weight per cycle. Below 40% = poor mixing. Above 70% = reduced agitator effectiveness. |
| Discharge residual | Near zero (conical screw) Low (pneumatic valve) Moderate (manual gate) | Discharge valve type, vessel geometry, material flow | Critical for allergen control, cross-contamination prevention, and yield maximization. |
